SPIRITUALITY

There are two basic laws of nature (Law of Cooperation and Competition). There are five dimensions in human experience
1. Physical dimension - This is the foundation of our universe that we all are made of atoms. The atoms hit each other (Compete with each other) and some atoms get together (Cooperate) to create the next dimension.

2. Chemical dimension - Chemical reaction is collection of atoms neutron and electron. There are 3 chemical forms: Gas, Liquid, and Solid. The forms compete with each other and some cooperate with each other and create the next dimension (Organic chemistry).

3. Biological dimension - Biological entity has its own system to support itself, reproductive, digestive, respitory, and nervous system. This is the end of the Material Dimensions, dimensions made from matter. The next 3 dimensions are the System dimension. The biological systems compete with each other and need a system to manage their cooperation and gives birth to emotions.

4. Emotional dimension - Emotional system is part of biological system to manage biological systems. The main purpose of emotions is to prioritize our needs to help us survive. However, our emotion is involved in too much competition with others and develop a system to help manage emotions.

5. Mental dimension - Mental dimension is our abstract dimension, we can't see or touch it. If emotion is our chemical and physical phenomena, mental dimension is neither biological or chemical. Mind is different than brain. However, a biological with emotional and mental dimension are dangerous beings without a system.

6. Social dimension - Social dimension is higher in abstraction dimension. Our social dimension is made from rules to regulate behaviors, but we have no rules to regulate emotions or thoughts. Our social dimension requires civilization of its members. Eventually, they start to socialize and compete with each other.

7. Spiritual dimension - Spiritual dimension is higher in abstraction dimension. Our spiritual dimension is created to regulate society with the help of supernatural.


Science for the dimensions:
1. Physics for physical dimension
2. Chemistry for chemical dimension
3. Biology for biological dimension
4. Psychology for emotional/mental/social
5. Spirituality for spiritual dimension

In other words, spirituality is something that science can't explain.

The Most Dangerous Behavior

What is the most dangerous behavior? Stealing, raping, bullying, abusing, killing? They are dangerous behaviors. But I believe that the most dangerous behavior is Cheating. Cheating allows dangerous behaviors to continue without being noticed.  Dangerous behaviors are mistakes that we make, but cheating makes them unstoppable and unmanagable. Cheating hides and protect those mistakes from being corrected.

We can cheat ourselves and cheat others. We cheat ourselves by ignorance or denial. An ignorant simply does not know and believes what is seen as true. A denier is trying to avoid traumatic feelings.

"Cheaters hate honesty and honest persons hate lies"

 Self-cheating is the basis of all mental health problems and disorders. It has been mentioned in spirituality as source of suffering. Adam hid himself from God after eating the forbidden fruit. Jesus prayed to forgive his enemies for "they know not what they do", Buddha said that we are asleep.

Cheating others is the basis of relationship problems. We are not only talking about hiding affairs or other negative behaviors. We sometimes pretend to be someone we are not and people find out about who we really are after the fact. Cheating destroy trust, the main ingredient in relationship.

Cheating also occur in professional setting, in government and private sectors. This is a dangerous form of cheating because a person can hide behind his profession to do his cheating. For example, the priests who crucify Jesus, the priests who abuse children or government official who corrupt. They all use a mask of their "Profession" to do their personal act. At the same time, where a person have emotion to keep him honest (It's called guilt), a profession does not have emotion to keep him honest. A person by himself maybe unable to kill another human being, but he can use his profession to kill "because it's a job." or hire a professional killer to do the killing.

Corruption is a common cheating practice in professional setting where a person takes more than he earns or sell something that was not his to sell, like law or permit. What makes corruption dangerous is other than robbing the money is that a person deny the corruption. Now the cheater cheat about the cheating. It makes the behavior unstoppable and unmanagable. The persons hide behind the mask of his profession and deny the corruption.

Profession is more dangerous than a person. Profession has the authority, power, wealth that can be abused. The person and profession by itself is not dangerous, the person plus the profession makes a dangerous combination. Hitler by himself is pretty harmless. But Hitler as the leader of Nazi is a dangerous person.
Truth always have evidence and lies has no evidence and has to be created.

Cheating is subtle and secretive.It is contagious and spreads like wild fire. Nothing destroy a group faster than cheating. It is difficult to confront without evidence. Even with evidence, they will bargain or use excuses to justify their behaviors. We all makes mistakes, but cheating turn our mistakes dangerous.

There is a school in England called Summerhill where students can do whatever they want as long as they don't hurt others and they don't cheat. If only, we can apply those two rules in this world, how wonderful our world will be.

The best way to deal with cheating behaviors is to lay it up in the open. To make public what is private. It is better to feel pain but true rather than pleasure in lies. They will say that "we destroy their good names and accuse them". They will ask for evidence and it's true that we often can't come up with evidence of their cheating because they keep the evidence secret. Ask them for evidence that they don't lie and most of the time, they can't prove that they don't lie either because they have no evidence of their not-lying.

A liar usually keep the truth hidden and spread the lies. An honest person keep the lies hidden and spread the truth.

Human Needs 5 - Relationship

Abraham Maslow believes that a person is responsible to meet his own needs. An adult person is responsible to meet his own needs. In relationship, we share our life with another person or persons. There are four kinds of relationship (we are talking about relationship between 2 adults, not parents/children relationship):
1. Independence - In independent relationship, each person is meeting his own needs. This kind of relationship does not make sense. Why do we stay in relationship if we are independent?



2. Dependence - In dependent relationship, a person depends on another or others to meet his or her needs. Even though this is healthy for adults-children relationship, this is a "handicapped" relationship between adults. There is a problem of independent living. For example, an adult who expect others to cater to his wants including to always make him happy. This usually happens in a "Dominance-submissive" relationship where one person is more dominant in the relationship. There is a big difference between dominance and leadership. The difference is the consent. Dominance is selected by self and leadership is selected by others. This is a WIN-LOSE relationship where one person has to lose in order for the other to win.


3. Co-Dependence - In Co Dependent relationship, each persons expect each others to meet their needs. In marital relationship, a husband expect the wife to meet his needs and the wife expect the husband to meet her needs. This is a dysfunctional relationship. There is a high degree of control in this relationship because if I expect you to make me happy, I  have to control you to always make me happy and vice versa. This relationship also doesn't make sense if "I have to sacrifice myself to make you happy and you have to sacrifice yourselves to make me happy", there are two unhappy "sacrificed" persons who are TRYING to make others happy (which is mission impossible). This is a LOSE-LOSE relationship where both persons fight in the losing wars.


4. Inter-dependence - In Interdependent relationship, each persons are meeting their own need and they choose to do it together to support and help each other. This is the healthiest form of relationship. There is a high degree of freedom and low degree of control in this relationship. This is a WIN-WIN relationship where one person can win without the other has to lose and one only win when the other also win. Self Actualizing needs, Love and happiness, can only actualized in freedom. A person treat others like he likes to be treated and vice versa (Reciprocal law).

There is a difference between NEEDS and CHORES. We delegate and shares CHORES in meeting our NEEDS together, such as, providing income, maintaining the house, raising children, etc, but they are not the same thing. Sharing CHORES to meed NEEDS is the idea of being in relationship that combined forces is better than one. We, honestly, don't know what make others feel physically satisfied, safe and happy, like they don't know what make ours, why don't we each save a lot of time and frustration and get what we need.

According to Maslow, we can meet our own needs as long as we don't violate others meeting their needs. This is called Self Responsible. What is worst is that a person who meets their needs at the expense of others meeting their needs, this is called Selfishness.

Human needs - 4 The Pretenders

Ini adalah bagian terpenting tentang bagaimana menggunakan “Maslow’s pyramid kebutuhan.

Sewaktu kita tumbuh, kita semua telah mengalami kemiskinan, perang, ketidaksempurnaan, kebutuhan yang tidak terpenuhi di rumah, sekolah, atau di masyarakat. Bahkan, definisi kata “Masalah” adalah “kebutuhan yang tidak terpenuhi”. Seperti, masalah keuangan,masalah social, atau masalah keluarga/hubungan. Ada yang mempunyai masalah yang lebih dari yang lain. Perasaan “frustrasi” ini menciptakan “lobang” atau “bekas luka” di pikiran kita. Buat beberapa orang, ini masih berbentuk “luka yang masih terbuka” yang masih sakit. Tapi dalam kasus ini, kita bilang mereka sakit ke dalam dan keluar. Act in inilah yang kita bilang NGAMBEK. Act out adalah perbuatan yang kita lakukan yang merugikan orang lain. Untuk luka fisik, kita biasanya tutup dengan kain atau kapas. Tapi untuk luka mental ini, kita juga menutupnya dengan “sesuatu”. “Sesuatu” inilah yang akan kita bicarakan.

Carl Jung bilang “Sesuatu” ini Persona (topeng). Psikologis bilang ini Personalitas atau kepribadian. Johari Window bilang ini Diri Publik kita. Inilah 9 personalitas Enneagram atau 16 personalitas MBTI. Kita membuat topeng ini dari Peran yang kita mainkan di keluarga untuk menghadapi “masalah” ketika kita kecil. Ada yang belajar untuk berdiam, ada yang jadi lucu, ada yang jadi sempurna, dan lain2. Mereka menyembunyikan masalah masalah sehingga mereka mengadopsi, bukan menyesuaikan diri, kepribadian ini sebagai diri mereka dan lupa tentang yang mereka sembunyikan. Lalu, diri mereka yang benar mereka abaikan dan menyebabkan masalah2 di hubungan, pekerjaan, dan kehidupan.

Ada dua penyebab adanya si Topeng, Yang tidak tahu dan penyangkalan diri. Perbedaan antara ke dua tipe adalah pengalaman trauma yang dilalui oleh seseorang dalam hidupnya. Orang yang tidak tahu hanya tidak sadar “illusi” pikiran dan bias belajar untuk sadar akan ilusi tersebut dan menemukan dirinya sendiri. Orang yang menyangkal diri sendiri mengadopsi si topeng untuk menghindari perasaan trauma yang dia alami. Kalau dalam kasus ekstremnya, seseorang akan memutuskan dirinya dari perasaannya (psikopath) atau dari pikirannya (delusi/fantasi) untuk menghindari perasaan traumanya.
Ada 2 macam kepura2an, the Esteems dan Self Actualizors, dengan 3 level masalah (masalah social, masalah social dan rasa aman, dan masalah social, rasa aman, dan fisikal). Tetapi, mereka tidak sebahaya tipe yang berikutnya.
2. Ke pura2 an Aktualisasi Diri – Tipe ini biasanya orang yang mengenakan topeng “Keagamaan atau spiritualitas” yang mengaku sudah tercerahkan, sangat taat, mendengar suara Tuhan, utusan khusus Tuhan, dll. Memang ada yang benar2 seperti yang di atas itu dan ada pula yang pura2. Dimensi spiritual adalah dimensi yang paling tinggi dan paling abstrak dalam dimensi pengalaman manusia. Dimensi spiritual memiliki keunggulan disbanding dimensi yang lain (fisik, kimia, biologi, emosi, mental, dan social) karma ke Maha nya. Film “The Book of Eli” menceritakan tentang pertarungan untuk memperebutkan sebuah Buku karma siapapun yang menguasai Buku itu menguasai dunia. “Ada bedanya antara seorang mistik dan seorang psikotik dimana seorang psikotik berpura2 menjadi mistik”. Maslow bilang bahwa hanya ada kurang dari 10% yang bias mencapai level ini. Sangatlah mudah untuk mengenakan barang2 atau pakaian2 beragama atau berbicara tentang agama. Yang sulit adalah untuk mempraktekan agama dalam hidup kita. Seperti sangatlah mudah untuk bilang “aku saying kamu” atau beli bunga atau cokelat tapi sangatlah sulit untuk mencintai seseorang.
Jadi, berhati2 lah bukan hanya kepada kebohongan orang lain tapi juga kebohongan diri sendiri. Kita sebenarnya sudah punya “alat pelacak kebohongan”. Namanya Emosi. Belajarlah untuk menggunakan itu.

Growing up, we all have experienced "Needs not being met" of our Basic Needs or what we call Problems. We have Problems as long as we have Needs. On top of our Present Problems, most of us carry "Unfinished Business" problems from the past. These "Unfinished Business" creates senses of "Empty Holes" or "Trauma" or "Wound" or "Afflicted Feeling" that grab our attention away from our present life. The more severe the problems were, the stronger the feelings we have. Our feelings are like an alarm system that gets louder in emergency to grab our attention. However, we then use this "Unfinished business" reaction to deal with present life.

We then try to COVER UP the problems or try to fill up the "Emptiness" with sorts of activities. This is how we create our MASK or PERSONALITY or PUBLIC SELF. This mask is usually made up of "SOCIALLY DESIRABLE" roles: Power, Wealth, Fame, Hero, Perfection, Saint, Productive, Excellence, Creative, or other roles that is valued by society. We call this roles our ALTER EGO. We even add the word "SUPER" to the roles. ("Batman and Spiderman are human's alter ego, but Clark Kent is Superman's alter ego." Kill Bill) We eventually forget our "Problems" and they become our "SHADOW", THE PRIVATE SELF that will come out in privacy, HIDDEN SELF that will come out to others, or the UNKNOWN SELF.

The popular "Socially Desirable" masks are to be "ESTEEMED" AND 'SELF ACTUALIZED". A person may accomplish many things in life, academically, career wise, socially popular, famous, wealthy, or even spiritually advanced. The question to ask is that ARE THEY REALLY? or Is it only their own "PUBLIC RELATION" or "IMAGE MANAGEMENT"?

Unfortunately, there are many "Self Development" workshops and counseling focus on "IMAGES" like a "PLASTIC SURGERY" for psychology. Unless a person "Wakes up" and has "Awareness" of who he is, he has to continually run away and hide being haunted by his own shadows.

Behavior

What is a behavior? A movement to operate our body or an object. Such as, operating our body to write, walk, sing, talk, read, etc. Operating an object, such as driving a car, using a computer, operating a machine, etc. We sometimes call it skills.

It is confusing to think in terms of thought, feeling, and behavior. Because they are abstract terms. It is easier to think in terms of mind and body. Our body has 6 senses who gives us experience. At any waking moment in time, we have sensical experience in PRESENT. Past and future happens only in MIND. So we have 6 senses, 5 that operates in PRESENT and 1 that operates in PAST AND FUTURE. The conscious mind consists of BASES FOR SENSES, PERCEPTION, and THE MIRROR/REFLECTION, REFLACTION. IMAGINATION. Our perception gives us subjective view where our imagination gives us objective, abstract, big picture.It s a different ZOOMING experience. Neither is absolute.

THE REFLAXION IS CALLED ABSTRACTION. From the highest, ANALOGY, METAPHOR, THEORY, HYPOTHESIS, AND OBSERVATION.

Perception is sensical experience. Our life experience occurs as EXTERNAL SENSES - INTERNAL SENSES (PERCEPTION - IMAGINATION/KNOWLEDGE - FEELING - IMAGINATION/KNOWLEDGE - PERCEPTION) - MOVEMENT/BEHAVIOR - EXTERNAL SENSES...

RECEIVING (EXT SENSES - INTERNAL SENSES (PERCEPTION - KNOWLEDGE - FEELING) - REACTING (IMAGINATION/KNOWLEDGE - PERCEPTION) - MOVEMENT/BEHAVIOR.

RECEIVING - REACTING - RECEIVING -REACTING...

INTERNAL SENSES IS WHAT WE CALLED CONSCIOUSNESS. IN SLEEPING MODE, PERCEPTION AND EXTERNAL SENSES ARE ASLEEP. KNOWLEDGE AND FEELING ARE AWAKE.

SUFFERING IS CONFUSION OF INTERNAL SENSES BETWEEN FEELING AND KNOWLEDGE. FALSE FEELING TO FALSE KNOWLEDGE LEAD TO FALSE BEHAVIORS THAT LEAD TO FURTHER FALSE PERCEPTION LEAD TO FALSE KNOWLEDGE AND FALSE FEELING, ETC...

We usually measure success from material possessions and a person's job. But according to Abraham Maslow, a human being is looking for more than just financial success. In fact, financial success is only the first and most basic needs we have. Maslow defines Needs as "Whatever that motivates human's behavior" or "whatever that we seek." They are "Goals" in life. According to Maslow, there are 5 needs that we seek:

1. Physical Needs - Physical needs are whatever that we need to live, such as air, water, food, clothes, and shelter. This is where Money play a big role because nothing is free. In fact, this is the only need that can be purchased with money (even though some people try to sell and buy other needs with money). Human being is the only creature that does not depend on natural resources. In fact, air is the only natural and free basic need that we have. Not for long though, because like everything else, air will be "processed" and "privatized" and will be sold. In other words, other than air, all of our basic needs are "processed", we eat processed food, we drink "processed" water, we live in a "processed" house in a "man made design" city. We even use "man made" source of power, electricity. Anything that is processed has a price.

2. Safety Needs - There are two kinds of safety needs - Physical safety and non-physical or psychological safety needs. Physical safety need is freedom from physical oppression, physical abuse, physical bullying, or any other acts of physical violence. Psychological safety need is freedom from oppression, abuse and neglect, or threat. We all have experienced physical or psychological "war" at home, in school, or in society. This need and the next need, social needs, are social needs but with two opposite goals. If this safety needs are social needs for freedom from "war", the Social Needs are social needs for "peace".

3. Social Needs - We all want to be accepted and loved. We all want to be "friends" with and for others; family members, friends, or strangers. It was researched in Europe that babies who did not get human touch died sooner than babies who received human touch. One of the deadliest punishment is the "Silent Treatment" or "excommunication." In prison, an inmate is "punished" by going to its prison, "Solitary Confinement". This is an effective punishment because of the importance of this need. Tom Hanks in "Cast Away" talked to a ball, Wilson.

Maslow called this three needs Basic Needs because a person may die or suffer physical or psychological deficiency if the needs are not met. Like physical disorders that a person can suffer for lacking these needs, he also suffer mental health disorders for lacking these needs. Lack of physical needs creates the deepest structural damage/disorders, such as lack of attachment or deep denial or arrested development. Lack of safety needs usually creates all kinds of emotional problems. Lack of social needs usually creates some kind of personality problems. In treatment, personality problems are very difficult to treat or deal with, but this problem is the least evil of the three.

4. Esteem Needs - If the three basic needs are individual needs, Esteem Needs are group needs. When we meet the three basic needs, we meet our individual needs. When we master the Esteem needs, we can "control" the group or society. The clearest example is driving. When we learn to drive, there are two levels we are trying to master. First, we learn to try to control our car. Even, after we can control the car (knowing how to stop and go, how to turn, or how to park) it doesn't mean we can drive. The next step is learning to control the road. We know that we can drive a car when we feel in control not only the car but also the traffic. We get our esteem needs from our accomplishment, Academic, Career, or services to others. It is like our "Recognition" by our society. However, a person do not have to be a "doctor" or "CEO" or "graduate from Harvard" or to be a Saint to meet this esteem needs. Many people have fake esteem needs (we ll talk about it later).

5. Self Actualizing Needs - If we are still using the Driving analogy, we eventually become competent in driving and we don't realize that we are driving. This is the Self Actualizing. It is "Mastering/competent" in living. Competence has more freedom and flexibility than incompetence. An incompetent musician can play a song only one way but a competent musician can do whatever he wants with the song. This is the top of the pyramid. Maslow said that we all want to get to the top. This is happiness, not pleasure, but happiness. This is freedom. A self actualizer is free does not mean he avoid problems, but he is free in spite of all problems that he has.

A wise person said that "there is a difference between a mystic and a psychotic" A mystic is a true self actualizer and a psychotic is a fake self actualizer. There are many fakers out there. Like mentioned above, even though physical needs are the only needs that can be bought and sold, other needs, that are supposed to be FREE, are being bought and sold.

A true self actualizer climbs through the pyramid and meet each needs before reaching the top. A faker fakes or pretend to be a Self Actualizer or Esteem-er to cover up their "hole" at the bottom of the pyramid. Sometimes, the word "emptiness" is used to talk about the "hole", such as "he use drugs to fill up the emptiness he feels."

People who pretend use this "Esteem" or "Self Actualization" as a mask. People who fake "esteem" is usually found in the higher management level on a company or higher government official. People who fake "Self Actualization" is usually found as leaders of Religions or spiritual movement. They look nice, holy, friendly, charismatic, and charming on the outside, but they are "evil-ish" on the inside.

This is one way of using the pyramid. There is another way of using the pyramid to look at toxic and healthy relationship.

Resistance

We sometimes have problems and sometimes we do not have problems. We wish and hope that we don't have problems in life but we do. It is important to notice though that we don't always have problems every second of our life because we sometimes do not have problems. What are we like when we do not have problems? When we do not have problems, we are in Status Quo or "comfort Zone". We feel neutral or positive about life. When we are in this comfort zone, our selves are surrounded by defense mechanism like our immune system protect our body. But they don't act so we don't notice. If we try to give help to this person, it s like "waking him up", we will see resistance.

However, A person in problem state open his defense mechanism to receive help. This person is more ready to receive help.

Johari Window

There is a difference bettween what we do and the action itself (the movement of muscle)
What we know about something and what it is is different
we operate from our knowledge or imagination
we don't tell the difference between this knowledge and imagination, even though we can.

our feeling and behavior react to this "mind", even our senses react to this "mind"
animal 'think, 'feel', and 'act' reacting to what they sense
human 'sense', 'feel' and 'act' reacting to what they think
"When we do, the mind doesn't really follow our action"

Imagination gives entertainment to "relax and feel good" to escape the "imagination" that is filled with dissapointments and worry.

knowledge follow the senses. Imagination is more abstract collection of knowledge, the big picture of collection of knowledge.
knowledge is like direct experience of our senses. it is more concrete.
Imagination is more abstract. Imagination is like information.

Like movement becomes habit, knowledge becomes imagination. When the imagination is false due to false inference, we have nightmare. We can create our own world of fantasy to go to to escape "real world".

knowledge is what reacting to our senses. Then, our feeling and action react to our knowledge who react to our senses. This is the FLOW. This is Samadi.

Johari window is about self knowledge. What we know about ourselves.
Public knowledge is what I and others know. What I and others agree to what we can sense. We are not talking about general knowledge here, we are talking knowledge about me. This is a small window and  can get tricky. We may say that this window has my General Information, name, sex, race. This window is negotiable and depends on consent. I can manipulate my public knowledge to others and even to myself. It is what I agree to show others. This is our personality. A fool is a person who believes that his public knowledge is what he is. We usually show a good side of us to others and ourselves. This window is not who we are, but who we want to believe and we want others to believe who we are. This is what i PUBLISH.

Private knowledge is what I know but others don't know. This is a very large window. We don't actually know what others do, think, or feel most of the time. Even our own partners that we spend our life with. If we spend time with our partner 24/7, we may see their behavior 18 hours a day except when we sleep. But, it doesn't mean we see her thought and emotion. In opposite, people don't know us, they react to us based on their own knowledge. What people know about us is our public knowledge, what we agree to show them or what we want them to see. A more critical person or naive person knows that there is public knowledge and private knowledge that we kept to ourselves. This is a Lie we told others. THIS IS WHAT I DON'T PUBLISH (BUT CAN LEAK).

Hidden knowledge about myself is what i don't know but what others can know. This is also a very large window. Another name for this window is Bias or Blindspot. For example, our un-aware speech, behavior, and emotional expression. This is the shadow of our self. We usually are not aware of our habit. We have this window due to our Ignorance or Denial. Ignorance is having no knowledge and denial is lying to self.
A wise person knows about his public knowledge, private knowledge, and hidden knowledge. THIS IS WHAT LEAKS AND WE DON'T KNOW IT.

The unknown knowledge about self is what i don't know and others don't know about me. This is the largest window of all. The difference between the hidden and unknown knowledge is this unknown knowledge has not made appearance to me or others yet or it's been forgotten in the past. So, this is our past and future. So, there is difference between the Past and the "past we are still carrying with us" and there is a difference between the future and "saying something about the future or planning". The past is gone and the future has not arrived yet, but our statement about them is just our Imagination. We sometimes call this window Unconscious, that is, knowledge that has gone back to unconscious or knowledge that has not yet appear to our consciousness. THIS IS "EITHER IT IS NOT THERE or NOBODY IS AWARE OF IT"

In language there is a difference between simple tense, "present", "past", "future" and Progressive, "perfect" and "continuous". The former is statements and the latter is progressive or experience. Progressive has two states "have moved" and "is moving". We can also state the negative progressive, "have not yet moved" and "is not moving". We can combine the progressive into perfect continuous "something has been moving" or "something has not been moving yet". The former movement starts in the past and the latter movement will start in the future (if we expect it to move). In progressive state, there is no line between "have moved" and "is moving" (present and future). By "have moved", what we mean to say is "to start the movement". So there is only one movement in progressive state "is moving".

The unknown knowledge has no progressive statements or simple statements that nobody are aware of. There is no knowledge of past, present, or future or anything that is moving. The wisest of man knows about all windows.

In other words, we can say that the first three knowledge has progressive statements and simple statement. The first one has knowledge that I agree to publish. The second one has knowledge that I know but I don't publish (this can leak). The third one has knowledge that I don't know but LEAK.

The fourth knowledge have knowledge that nobody is aware of.

Problems from each window:
1. Public Knowledge. Problems in this window is the problem of personality. A fool may not know that he has problems. There is no problem as long as both I and others believe the public knowledge. If one start to perceive the difference, it will go to point 2 or 3.

2. Private knowledge. Problems in this window can create problems in relationship and self. A secret can kill a person due to guilt and shame. This problem can create problem in communication.

3. Hidden knowledge: Problems in this window create problem in self and relationship (communication).

4. Unknown knowledge: this may be the biggest source of suffering but unknown. When known it will go to windows two or three, either noticed by self or noticed by others.

Self Defense

Psychology is originally a study of Mind (Consciousness). It is also a study of Self. Linguistically, Self is called Reflexive Pronoun. Myself is called Possessive Reflexive pronoun "I can give something to myself." Self is uniquely human because human is the only creature that can reflex on his own existence. In a way, human is the last step in creation as the only creation that can look back at creation.

People are not dangerous or bad. What is bad or dangerous about people is their defense mechanism and shadow. A person cornered is like a cat cornered. In the movie "X-men", Phoenix has a deadly defense mechanism and she knows it. She begged the Professor to help her but he can't help her because she is more powerful than him. It is her defense mechanism that kills people (even when she knows but can't control it). People who doesn't know his defense mechanism is more dangerous because they can't control and they will hurt self and others. What we are not aware of is beyond our control.

People hurt other people is not because they want to because "they know not what they do". There is a misperception that we have to sacrifice ourselves for others. This is irresponsible and dangerous. When flying on an airplane, stewardess will instruct us to "put the oxygen mask on ourselves first before we put the mask on our children". "It's my job to make you happy and your job to make happy" in relationship is dysfunctional. It is co-dependence at its worst. Co-dependency is expecting others to make us happy. It's the recipe for unhappiness and control. Healthy relationship is Inter-dependent, not dependent, independent, or co-dependent. The sign of maturity or adulthood is independence and meeting own needs is what independence is. It is worst when a person expect his partner to make him happy but he doesn't return the favor. This is a handicapped relationship.

There is a difference between meeting our needs and selfishness. It is our right to meet our needs and be accountable for meeting our needs. Selfishness is meeting our needs at the expense of others. We are free to meet our needs without violating others meeting their needs. This is we are expected to "treat others like we like to be treated but they don't treated like they like to be treated." This is called cheating.

Life is short. Live your own, don't live anybody else. There is difference between helping others and living others' life.

Most people are selfish and blind. Just don't let them violate yours and don't violate others.

Most human beings think they know themselves. They think what they consciously know is all there is to know about themselves. Johari Window shows that there is more than meet the eyes. We can know our selves and others can also know our selves. According to the Window, there are four part of our selves that gives us life that we know it.

Public Self
Public Self is what is known to me and others. This is the public knowledge about my self, such as appearance, persona (public self), identity (name, religion, school, job, etc), and other public knowledge.

Private Self
What is known to me only. This is the private knowledge about my self, such as secret, secret thoughts, lie to others, and other secret.

Hidden Self
What is know to others, but not to me. This is the hidden knowledge about my self, such as shadow, bias, thinking distortions, anything that we are not aware of.

Unknown self
Not known to me and others. This is the unknown knowledge about my self. This includes our unconscious, potential that hasn't materialized yet.

Problems in our life is mostly caused not by public self or unknown self, but caused by private self and hidden self. Most people comes to counseling and therapy for problems caused by private and hidden self. There is no problem caused by Public self is the self is open for public. Most problems in our life is caused by something hidden, either by ignorance or denial. There is a saying that "all criminal behaviors are committed at night".

If we have a problem and experience stress, ask ourselves a question if we are keeping a secret or there is something that we don't know.

LEARNING 1-3

Komunikasi kita yang pertama adalah komunikasi lisan sampai tulisan diciptakan. Tapi karna kertas masih jarang saat itu, menulis dan komunikasi melalui tulisan adalah barang mewah untuk raja atau orang kaya. Tetapi, sekarang kertas telah menjadi barang yang murah dan kita sering tidak menyadarinya. Dalam abad terakhir ini, kita mengalami komunikasi yang baru, komunikasi digital yang menggunakan gambar atau video.

Belajar tergantung sama komunikasi seperti kita butuh udara untuk hidup. Kita bisa belajar secara lisan, tulisan atau digital (gambar atau video). Kita belajar dari pengalaman bahwa kita lebih tertarik dan lebih gampang menerima gambar dibandingkan kata2. Anak2 kecil lebih suka nonton tv atau melihat komik daripada membaca buku.

The first kind of communication is oral communication until the invention of writing. Due to the rarity of papers, writing and verbal communication were luxury only enjoyed by kings or wealthy individuals. However, papers become the cheapest thing we can have and we often take it for granted. In the latest century, with the advance of technology, we experience a new way of communication, digital communication using either picture or video.

Learning depends on communication like we need air to live. We can learn either orally, verbally, or digitally (picture or video). We learn from experience that we are more attracted and accept pictures (moving or still) than we are with words. Children like to watch tv or see comics rather than reading books.

Ada perubahan dalam bidang pendidikan dengan membedakan antara studying and learning. Studying adalah teknik menaruh informasi di memori. Learning adalah kemampuan alami otak untuk menyerap informasi. Studying adalah teknik learning. Science telah membuktikan bahwa kita adalah learner alami yang selalu menyerap informasi dari lingkungan tidak perduli umur. Kita bisa melihat fenomena ini secara jelas di kehebatan anak kecil belajar banyak hal dalam 5 tahun pertama. Bukannya mereka stop belajar di umur 5, tapi mereka belajar cara belajar yang lebih tidak effektif, studying.

Studying adalah cara tua belajar karna mengandalkan kata2 dan kuno. Ilmuwan telah menemukan bahwa kita melihat gambar di pikiran kita. Lebih jelasnya, kita melihat gambar di otak kanan kita dan kita mendengar kata/bahasa di otak kiri kita. Pada saat kita menggunakan kata/bahasa dalam belajar, kita harus mengartikan kata ke gambar dan gambar ke kata sebelum kita bicara atau mengerti pembicaraan. Sangatlah meletihkan karna kita harus bekerja dua kali. Sekarang bayangkan, kalau kita harus belajar sebuah kalimat atau paragraf. Bukanlah sebuah kebetulan bahwa kita lebih mudah capai pada saat membaca buku. Inilah yang kita maksud dengan "attention span" dimana orang dewasa bisa bertahan 2 jam dan anak kecil lebih pendek dari itu.

Ada 2 macam cara komunikasi, mengirim/membuat dan menerima. Menulis dan berbicara adalah yang pertama, mendengarkan dan membaca adalah yg kedua. Lebih mudah dan murah untuk menerima daripada untuk mengirim. Contohnya, walaupun lebih mudah dan murah untuk melihat gambar di komik atau nonton film, kita tahu bahwa jauh lebih sulit dan jauh lebih mahal untuk membuat informasi digital.

Industri hiburan dan marketing, karna dana mereka yang besar, telah mengetahui hal ini jauh sebelum kita di bidang pendidikan. Memang masih mahal untuk membuat informasi digital. Sebuah film blockbuster bisa menghabiskan 100 juta dollar. Iklan tv bisa menghabiskan ribuan dollar. Bahkan sebuah iklan di majalah bisa menghabiskan ribuan dollar. Keefektifan mereka terletak pada fakta scientifik bahwa manusia melihat halaman majalah atau ganti channel tv setiap 3 detik atau kurang. Jadi mereka harus membuat informasi digital yang bisa menggaet perhatian mereka dan menanam pesan informasi mereka di otak kita kurang dari 3 detik. Bukankah itu yang ingin kita berikan kepada murid kita ketika kita mengajar? Kita ingin menggaet perhatian mereka dan menanam informasi di otak mereka secepat mungkin?

There is a shift in educational field in recognizing the difference between studying and learning. Studying is a technique of putting information into memory. Learning is brain's natural ability to absorb information. Studying is a technique of learning. Science also has proved that we are natural learner who always absorb information from environment regardless of age. We can see this phenomena clearly in the ability of young children to learn many things in the first five years. It is not that they stop learning at the age of five, they learn more ineffective ways to learn, studying.

Studying is the old way of learning because it is verbal and outdated.Scientists have found that we "see" pictures in our mind. More accurately, we see pictures in our right brain and we hear words/language in our left brain. What happens when we learn using words/language, our brain has to translate a word into picture from our left to right brain when we listen and it has to create a word from picture from our right to left brain when we talk or write. Now, imagine if we have to write or hear a sentence or even a paragraph. It is not an accident that we get tired easily when we read books. This is what we mean by "attention span" where adult's is 2 hours and children much less than that!

There are two modes of communication, sending/creating and receiving. Writing and talking is the former and listening and reading is the latter. It is much easier and cheaper to receive than it is to send. For example, even though it is easier and cheaper to see pictures in comic or watch movies, we know that it is more difficult and costs much more to produce digital presentation.

Entertainment industry and Marketing industry, due to their big budget, has recognized this effectiveness way before we do in educational field. It is still expensive to produce digital information. A blockbuster movie can cost about 100 million dollars. A TV video advertisement cost thousands of dollars to create. Even a magazine advertisement cost thousand of dollars to create. Their effectiveness lies in the scientific fact that we flipped magazine pages or channel in less than 3 seconds. So they have to create an image that grab our attention and goes inside our mind in that time span. Isn't that what we want to do when we teach our children? we want to grab their attention and put the information in their mind as effective as we can?

Penemuan baru di bidang pendidikan sekarang fokus dalam menciptakan "ruangan learning yang effektif" atau menciptakan "pengalaman learning puncak" dengan mengetahui bahwa nafsu untuk belajar sama seperti nafsu untuk makan. Mereka juga menemui bahwa orang belajar paling cepat dengan melakukan dan orang belajar lebih cepat dengan gambar.

Masalahnya
studying adalah studying membuat learning difficult. Studying memberikan kita pandangan yang salah tentang belajar atau bahkan bekerja. Ketika aku di sekolah, aku cuma senang 2 hari seminggu, Sabtu dan Minggu. Aku senang pergi sekolah cuma satu minggu per semestar, pas minggu tanding olahraga/class meeting. Bahkan, beberapa orang dewasa mempunyai pandangan bahwa membenci pekerjaan adalah hal biasa selama kita dibayar tinggi untuk "membakar stress". Bukankah itu membuang2 duit? Kalo kamu dibayar 30 juta rupiah tapi memakai 20 juta untuk bersenang2 untuk membakar stress bukankah berarti kamu cuma berpendapatan 10 juta rupiah?

Kita belajar pandangan yang salah tentang learning. Studying telah memberi learning nama yang jelek. Studying bahkan telah menjelekan bekerja/working. Ketika seorang anak dipaksa untuk belajar, dia hanya berpikir untuk bermain. Ketika anak bermain, dia belajar.

Efeknya belajar yang bikin stress ini adalah timbulnya fantasy games industry dimana kita "melarikan diri" dari hidup kita. Walaupun ada keuntungannya, game2 itu tidak berguna dalam mengajar mereka hidup di dunia nyata. Ada orang yang hanya demen nonton tv atau kecanduan main video games. Itu bukanlah hidup, tapi lari dari hidup. Apa gunanya belajar bermain video games balapan? Kita tidak sedang belajar nyetir mobil ketika main game2 itu.

Belajar itu menghibur. Belajar sesuatu yang baru itu menyenangkan. Mengapa bermain fantasy games tentang hidup kalau kita bisa bermain dengan kehidupan kita yang nyata? Kalo seorang anak senang belajar, dia tidak perlu mencari kesenangan diluar yang lain.

The new science in education now focus on creating an "effective learning environment" or creating a "peak learning experience" by recognizing that the appetite for learning is as natural as appetite for eating. They have found that people learn best by doing and people learn best using pictures (video better than still pictures). They even use "learners" instead of "students".

The problem with studying is that it makes learning difficult. It gives us negative attitude about learning or even working. When I was in school, I was happy only 2 days a week, Saturday and Sunday. I was excited to go to school only one week a semester, during class meeting. I even have this attitude when working where I am waiting for the weekends. Some adults have attitude that it's ok to hate our job as long as we get paid well to "burn the stress". Isn't it the same as wasting money away? If you hate your job and you get paid Rp. 30.000.000/month and have to spend two third of it on entertainment to burn the stress, doesn't it mean that you only get paid Rp. 10.000.000 a month.

We learn a wrong attitude about learning. Studying gives learning a bad name. Studying even gives playing a bad name. When a child is forced to study, they only think about playing. When a child play, a child learn.

The effect of this distress learning is the creation of fantasy games industry where we "escape" life by playing this games. Even though there is some advantages, they are useless in helping them dealing with real life. Some adults become couch potatoes, staring at tv's or addicted to video games. They are not life, they are escape from life. What is the use of playing military games or racing games. We are not learning to drive when we play those racing games.

Learning is entertaining. Learning new information is exciting. Why playing fantasy games of life when we can play real life? When a child have fun learning, he doesn't need to find fun useless activities.

WHAT IS SOCIALLY GOOD IS NOT WHAT IS INDIVIDUALLY GOOD.
ANY INDIVIDUAL ACTION THAT DOESN'T FIT THE SOCIAL GOOD IS REPRESSED

WHAT IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE SOCIALLY GOOD?
WE CHASE THIS SOCIAL TROPHY OF BEING A GOOD PERSON
WE MANIPULATE AND CHEAT IN PRETENDING TO BE ONES
MAINTAINING THIS IMAGE OF GOOD.
PROTECTING THE IMAGE AND NAME IN SOCIETY
THIS GIVES BIRTH TO THE SHADOW.

HOW DOES SHADOW WORKS?
SHADOWS WAS COVERED UP. WHEN A PERSON SAY "LOOK AT THAT PERSON. I AM NOT LIKE THAT" HE IS THAT.

A PERSON IS WHAT HE HATES. WHEN A PERSON DOESN'T KNOW WHY HE HATES SOMETHING OR SOMEONE.

TRANSFERENCE. WHEN WE SEE SOMETHING THAT WE HATE, WE FIND TRANSFERENCE FOR OUR HATE. IT TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE.

DOES IT MEAN IF I HATE AN AGGRESSIVE PERSON THAT I AM AN AGGRESSIVE PERSON? IT MEANS THAT THERE IS AN AGGRESSOR INSIDE AND WE DON'T LIKE THAT AGGRESSOR. WHEN THERE IS OPPORTUNITY, THIS AGGRESSOR WILL COME OUT.

A BULLY DOESN'T LIKE BEING BULLIED UPON. ONE IS PLEASURE AND ONE IS PAIN.

WE ARE WHAT WE HATE. WE ARE OUR SHADOW. THIS SHADOW IS LIKE NEGLECT CHILD, NEEDS NURTURING AND LOVE AND NOT TO BE AFRAID OF. WE NEED TO BREAK THE STIGMA.

WE LEARN TO LIVE BY THE GOOD NAME. WE ARE TRYING TO LIVE UP THE GOOD NAME, GOOD SOCIAL STANDING.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO EARN SOCIAL ESTEEM, BUT MOST PEOPLE PRETEND TO EARN THE ESTEEM (PERSONA), WITH WEAK FOUNDATION, THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ENLIGHTENED AND SICK PERSON.

FOR THESE PEOPLE, THEY WEAR THE ESTEEM AS A MASK WHILE AT THE SAME TIME HIDING THEIR UNMET NEEDS/PROBLEMS/WEAKNESSES AS SHADOW.

WE CLOSE OUR EYES ON HUMAN NATURE, BEING HUMAN
WE BELIEVE THE CONVENTIONAL IDEA TO BE HUMAN, TO BE CIVILIZED BEING.
LIKE PUNISHING A DOG FOR BEING UNTAMED, FOR NOT UNDERSTANDING ITS NATURE, WE PUNISH INDIVIDUAL WHO DOESN'T CONFORM TO THE RULES.

WE DON'T EXPECT OURSELVES TO CONFORM TO THE RULES, BECAUSE WE BELIEVE WE HAVE, BUT WE EXPECT OTHERS TO CONFORM TO THE RULES.

THIS IS THE NARCISSISTIC VIEW OUR SELVES. WE BALANCE OUR WORLD OR CORRECT OUR WORLD BY EXPECTING PEOPLE TO DO THE RIGHT THINGS BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO. WE EXPECT OTHERS TO FOLLOW THE RULES THAT WE CREATE JUST FOR THEM BECAUSE I BELIEVE I AM THE CENTER OR LEADER.

A PERSON WHO DEMAND FREEDOM TO DO WHATEVER HE WANTS TO DO IN HIS LIFE DOESN'T GIVE FREEDOM TO OTHERS TO DO WHATEVER SHE WANTS TO DO AND HE DOESN'T SEE IT.

THE PERSON IS ALSO USUALLY IDEALISTIC AND ORDERED. THE EXTREME CASE IS OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE AND THE SHADOW IS THE OBJECT THAT IRRITATE HIM.

WE CAN SEE SHADOW EVERYWHERE, PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY IN CLOSED RELATIONSHIP OR IN MEDIA. SHADOW APPEAR DUE TO PERSONA. LEARN TO BE SILLY. WHATEVER IS NOT ACCEPTED, LIKE CHILDLIKENESS, SILLINESS, PLAY, SENSITIVITY FOR GUYS.

THE STRONGER THE BOAT FIGHT, THE STRONGER THE STREAM AND THE WAVE. BECAUSE THE STREAM AND WAVE IS STRONGER THAN THE BOAT. WHAT THE BOAT WANTS IS DIFFERENT THAN THE STREAM'S AND THE BOAT IS TOO SMALL IS PART OF THE STREAM. OUR SELF CONSCIOUSNESS IS TOO SMALL AND IS PART OF OUR MIND-BODY (HABITUAL (NATURE-NURTURE/BODY-MIND) PROCESS).

SELF CONSCIOUSNESS IS THE LEFTOVER FROM THE PAST, THE FREEZING REACTION OF FEAR. IN HUMAN, IT IS DELAYED FEAR DUE TO COGNITION. OUR MIND IS IN CLOSED- MODE AND WE TAKE OVER TO MANUALLY STEER THE BOAT INSTEAD OF LETTING AUTOPILOT.

TALKING AND LISTENING ARE ACTION, MORE POWERFUL THAN ACTION OR BODY LANGUAGE BECAUSE OF THE LIMITLESS ABILITY OF LANGUAGE. WE CAN'T DIRECT PEOPLE PHYSICALLY BECAUSE IT IS ILLEGAL. WE CAN COOPERATE TO COMPETE, BUT COMPETITION IS NOT THE END, BUT ONLY THE MEANS. THE END IS THE COOPERATION. THIS IS SPIRITUALITY.

WHAT WE ARE AFRAID OF IS LEARNING SOMETHING NEW. CHANGE INSTEAD OF STATUS QUO. WHERE CHALLENGE IS HIGHER THAN SKILLS.

LIKE MAGIC, WE DON'T GET FOOLED WHEN WE KNOW. WE DON'T GET FOOLED BY PHENOMENON WHEN WE KNOW. WE CREATE THE STORY BASED ON WHAT WE SEE. WE CREATE A DIFFERENT STORY WHEN WE KNOW. MAGIC IS DEFYING NATURAL LAWS OR LOGIC. BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW WHAT IS BEHIND THE SCENE OR HIDDEN. COMPUTER VIRUS ALSO HIDES IN THE COMPUTERS. WHAT IS HIDDEN IS HARD TO FIX.

LIFE IS ALONE. WE MEET STRANGERS WHOM WE RARELY MEET IN LIFE. EVEN FRIENDS AND FAMILY ARE MET RARELY. WE CREATE THE STORY AND WE THINK WE CALL IT KNOWLEDGE. WE ACTUALLY DON'T KNOW OTHER PEOPLE'S LIFE OR ANYTHING BEYOND OUR SENSES OR KNOWLEDGE. WE ONLY CREATE STORY FROM OUR KNOWLEDGE AND USING LOGIC TO NARRATE THE STORY. WE USE RULE OF THUMB AND ABSTRACTION OR TEMPLATE TO NAVIGATE IN LIFE. JUST AS WE THINK WE KNOW A HOUSE WE THINK WE KNOW INDIVIDUAL HOUSES.

EACH PERSON OR THINGS HAS ITS OWN LIFE OR STORY. LET'S CALL THIS BIOGRAPHICAL. WE ALSO HAS "A HOUSE" AS A SYMBOL. "SOMEONE'S HOUSE" IS CONCRETE. "A HOUSE" IS ABSTRACT. WE MOSTLY DON'T TOUCH THE CONCRETE, WE PROJECT THE ABSTRACT TO THE CONCRETE.

WE CAN ONLY TOUCH THE CONCRETE WITH OUR SENSES IN THE PRESENT. MOSTLY, WE INFER ABOUT THE PRESENCE OF AN OBJECT ABSTRACTLY AND EVEN MAKE JUDGEMENT ABOUT IT. WE USE LOGIC TO PREDICT ABOUT ITS BEHAVIOR.

WHAT IS CONCRETE IS BEHIND THE SCENE AND THAT IS THE FABRIC OF LIFE. LIKE A MOVIE OR VIDEO GAMES, WE JUST WANT TO BE ENTERTAINMENT AND DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH.
