Self is the source of suffering, Dalai Lama said that the inexistant self thought as existent self is the source of suffering, the superimposing of quality. Demello said that identification with the self is the source of suffering. Psychologists said that the alter ego to compensate the weak ego, the defense mechanism as a mask of superhero to deal with evil in the world. Profession, such as being a counselor, is an alter ego to fix the world.
THere are three nervous system mode: nervous reaction to sensation and to perception (dream (mere image) and human wakefulness (symbolic reprensentation)). In sensation, it's a signal reaction to present objects, in dream, it's a signal reaction to absent objects. Only in human wakefulness, it's a symbolic reaction to absent objects.
Human functions to absent objects most of the time, even regarding their body. Like with other objects, we rely on symbols to navigate and process the complex information to survive in human environment. We relate to others visually, we relate to self emotionally or by attachment. We developed this self attachment from attachment to caregivers. So, the sense of self is the quality of this attachment. Strong attachment produce a confident self. This attachment to this symbol of self appear subtly and more automatic (competent).
We manipulate our movement by manipulating the symbols or intending and the body will follow. We manage our Person by manipulating the Self or intending the self and the body will follow.
Small emptiness --> alter ego
Except if we are superman, where the alter ego is the human. People who transform and recognize their own superman, they try to be regular.
So the question is IS THE SELF THE PAST SELF IN ENVIRONMENT REMEMBERED? OR IS IT THE PRESENT SELF IDENTIFYING WITH A SELF IN THE ENVIRONMENT?
IS IT THE SUBJECTIVE SELF IDENTIFYING WITH THE OBJECTIVE SELF? IS IT THE SELF IN SUBJECTIVE ENVIRONMENT (INCOMPETENT/TRAUMATIC) AS OPPOSED TO SELF IN OBJECTIVE ENVIRONMENT (COMPETENT/NON TRAUMATIC)?
THE PRESENT SELF IS STILL SUBJECTIVELY ATTACHED TO THE SELF AND OBJECTS...
