Our world is made up of time and space dimension
then there are objects that have quality, and relationship between objects
with its classification and level of abstraction

Time and Change

There are 5 steps of change:
PRECONTEMPLATION, CONTEMPLATION, PLAN, CHANGE, AND MAINTAINANCE

THERE IS NATURAL AND NURTURAL CHANGE. NATURAL CHANGE IS CHANGE THAT HAPPENS WITHOUT OUR CONSCIOUS WILL. NURTURAL CHANGE IS CHANGE THAT HAPPENS FROM OUR WILL OR OTHERS' WILL. IT IS SAID THAT WE FEAR CHANGE. MANY DIFFICULTY AND THE FEAR IN LIFE IS CAUSED BY OUR RESISTANCE TO THE NATURAL CHANGE, ESPECIALLY THE MAINTAINANCE OF THE CHANGE. OR , CONFUSING MAINTAINANCE AND THE CHANGE STAGE IN THE NURTURAL CHANGE, LIKE GETTING INTO RELATIONSHIP, MARRIAGE, OR RELIGIONS. WE CONFUSE GETTING BAPTIZED, WEDDING, GETTING INTO INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE RELATIONSHIP ITSELF. NURTURAL CHANGE BY OTHERS' WILL AND NATURAL CHANGE ARE MORE DIFFICULT THAN OWN WILL'S NURTURAL CHANGE.

THERE ARE 5 CULTURAL IDENTITY INTEGRATION. ANOTHER DIFFICULT PART OF CHANGE IS CULTURAL CHANGE. GETTING INTO RELATIONSHIP OR CHANGE OF STATUS IN RELATIONSHIP OR ENTERING INTO ORGANIZATION LIKE MARRIAGE CAN BE EXPLAINED BY THE CULTURAL IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT MODEL. HOW WE MERGE OUR INDIVIDUAL CULTURE WITH THE NEW CULTURE AND TRYING TO MAINTAIN OUR INDIVIDUAL CULTURE BEFORE WE CAN ACCEPT OUR INDIVIDUAL AND OUR NEW CULTURE. THIS CULTURAL IDENTITY INTEGRATION PROCESS IS ALSO AN INDIVIDUATION PROCESS THAT WE GO THROUGH IN OUR LIFE.

Conformity Stage In the conformity stage individuals exhibit a preference for the dominant cultural values over their own cultural values.  During this stage, individuals identify with the dominant group and use them as their primary reference group.  They tend to downplay and feel negatively about their own cultural group with low salience as part of their identity.
Dissonance Stage The dissonance stage is marked by an encounter or experience that is inconsistent with culturally held beliefs, attitudes and values from the conformity stage.  For instance, a minority individual who is ashamed of their own cultural heritage will encounter someone from their cultural group who is proud of his or her heritage.  In this stage, denial begins to occur and there is a questioning of one’s beliefs and attitudes held in the conformity stage.  For example, the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. caused many African Americans to move rapidly from a passive conformity stage to a dissonance stage.
Resistance and Immersion Stage In the resistance and immersion stage, a minority person is likely to feel anger, guilt and shame at the oppression and racism that they previously put up with.  This stage is marked by an endorsement of minority-held views and a rejection of the dominant values of society and culture.
Introspection Stage During the introspection stage, the individual devotes more energy toward understanding themselves as part of a minority group and what that means at a deeper level.  In contrast to the intense reactivity against dominant culture in the resistance and immersion stage, the introspection stage is more ‘pro-active’ in deļ¬ning and discovering the sense of self.
Integrative Awareness Stage The integrative awareness stage includes a sense of security and the ability to appreciate positive aspects of both their own culture and the dominant culture. Individuals in this stage have resolved conflicts experienced in earlier stages and have more of a sense of control and flexibility with the ability to recognize the pros and cons of both cultural groups while still trying to eliminate all forms of oppression.

It is raining softly outside on this morning of the last day of the year

actually the world did end and I started a new life

the world is not good or bad, they are not evil or good.
it's how I feel about them.

What is the world but what I think and feel about
the cognitive and affective connotative symbols that I react to
It is not to question life without living, but to live without the questions
life goes on, but I am trapped in this puzzle
and neglect the life itself
it is quite ironic like a person who is busy redesigning his garden but never enjoying it.
I am like a person who live in his dreamworld
or a dreamer who live in real world
What is a dream and what is real?
If I wake up from a dream, do I wake up to reality?
How do I know that it's not the opposite that the dream is the reality and when I wake up i go into my dream?
What do we do when we sleep?

Name and Identity

Extentional world is a physical world that we live in
however, the reality of this world is different than what we perceive
for perception is what our mind interpret what we sense externally and internally
perception is language and visually based
the language based perception is the world of absent and abstract objects and environment
we feel something is real but what do I feel is interpretation
visual based perception is different than the reality of the object or environment
visual based perception requires present and concrete objects and environment in front of us
Visual perception is created more by visual memory.
a fast moving pictures create a video
visual perception is a video
we have memory for all senses, including the feeling senses that can create trauma
however, all senses other than the visual must have visual interpretation
this visual interpretation is what we call mind.
then, we add the language based perception.
language based perception is different than pure imagination
perception is always about present object and environment
however, language based perception is the information about absent and abstract objects and environment that we add to the visual perception
for example, relationship, system, structure, psychological structure, and self of visual objects. But, for objects that we hear, taste, sense, and touch, we have to create the object itself in interpreting the sensation.
This is how we create meaning. It may be real that I am in a building and it is bright outside. Visual interpretation create a structure of the building and interpret the brightness and adding the language "I am in my house this morning" I give it a NAME.

pure imagination is not perception. it doesn't have present objects and environment. What is environment but our interpretation of objects and space.
it is 100% language based story made into a movie. Where a perception is like a video with an interpretation.

Perception and imagination are uniquely human. They are processed information. With this they create human community and living that separate itself from nature. We call it human made environment. Human is the only creature that don't shelter, eat, drink from nature. We don't digest those raw material. We eat and drink processed dish, ex. has been cooked. We live in a designed house and city with its road and transportation system. We create technology to fly, swim, and extend our muscle and senses. Our educational period takes much longer than animals.

With knowledge, we separate itself from nature. This is our verbal world that create a world of its own. "Give name to all creatures you see" said the Lord to Adam.

Sadly, we confuse between pure imagination and perception and reality. Not knowing the difference, we believe absolutely that our imagination and perception is reality. We think we already know and stop searching for the truth.  We make many decisions based on this "world" that is neither natural nor true.

The greatest confusion is our perception and imagination about our selves. I am different than who I think I am. Who I think I am is a name and identity I give myself, family identity, social identity, career identity, religious identity, basically any group membership that I belong to. I also give my self a psychological and physical identity, such as a nice person, an aggressive person or any other psychological profile. All of these identities are group membership with the meaning defined by the group. The clearest example is the interpretation of thinness and beauty in the society. The society gives value to this physical appearance and we just believe it. Commercial marketing fully understand this concept. They call it value added service. This is what branding is. They don't see the product anymore, they sell the brand. We do this on personal level too. We polish our self physically and thru our action and we try to improve our name/brand.

My identity is pure imagination. I am a person is a language based perception, but all additional information is pure imagination, our membership to abstract social groups. We even derive our sense of esteem from membership to these groups, either positive (prestigious careers or schools or family name) or negative (race, gender, health, etc). This gives birth to prejudice and stigma.

A literal person such as myself fall easily to this trap of imagination and language based perception. As an unsponsored philosopher who think just for fun, I sometimes confuse the difference between the I that I think about and the real I. Thinking is an activity like writing, reading, drawing, painting, singing, listening to music, playing sports, shopping, driving, etc. With thinking, however, we think that "I am this person who is in this place, etc" forgetting that they all are thoughts. We forget that we are thinking. We try to maintain this fake environment because we think that it is real and thus, we can't keep still. I always have this "splinter in my mind" that always make me thinking. The I that I think about is not the real I. A recovering drug addicts experience this struggle explicitly by thinking that they can quit smoking or drinking means that they can. They confuse between "I want to" with "I can". There are two I, the good one and the bad one. Sadly, they are nothing but positive and negative critic we tell our selves.

What is life other than activities? We think about the next activity at the same time as we are performing an activity. And, we perform the next activity, we think about the next next activity. Like Lennon advice to his boy "life is what happens to you while you busy making other plans" how deep...

We identify with our activities with the group associated with the activities, with the reward for belonging to those groups. An extreme examples are extreme religious cults and socialites. This is nothing but branding.

Self consciousness is our highest intelligence but it is also our downfall. Self consciousness is the enemy of spontaneity. It is the mark of incompetence or traumatic experience. it is the first step of learning. Self consciousness is the rehearsal of self in the unknown environment or challenged environment. We can't live without it but we wish we can live without it. This is what people lose when they drink. Self consciousness is our awareness of others/empathy. We ask ourselves a question before self consciousness "what does other think about me?". That's why it is more appropriate to call it public self consciousness. This is what hinders public speaking or confidence. A person who is beautiful is different than a person who knows that she is beautiful. "don't let your right hand know what your left hand is doing" Positive self consciousness is narcissistic thinking. A person who think that he is beautiful. To tamper it, it is wise to balance it out. We are not as good as what we think we are, we are not as bad what we think we are. There are always those who are better than me, and there are always those that are worse than me.

In spite of all the problems, our mind is nature's greatest creation. Not the mental logic and symbol/language mind, but our self consciousness. We are like God but on a small scale with our ability to create and progress. Our mind gives us a better chance to survive, decrease factors that can harm us and increase factors that can give better quality of life. However, our mind is nurturally conditioned. We are what we have been programmed to do. A robot can BE USED in factory setting or it can BE USED to kill depends on the program.

Body is nature but mind is nurture. PHYSICAL IS NATURE BUT PSYCHOLOGICAL IS NURTURE.

WE ARE UNCONSCIOUSLY ARE PROGRAMED TO FOLLOW OTHERS AND WILL BE GIVEN SOCIAL REWARDS OR BAITS.
TRYING TO BREAK FREE IS LIKE TRYING TO BREAK FREE OUR ATMOSPHERE. OUR ATMOSPHERE SUPPORTS LIFE HERE ON EARTH AND IT IS A PHYSICAL CONSEQUENCE THAT HAVE A STRONG BOUNDARY WITH THE OUTER SPACE. A SPACE SHUTTLE MUST ACCELERATE VERY FAST AND AT CERTAIN ANGLE TO ESCAPE THE ATMOSPHERE OR IT WILL BOUNCE BACK IN. THE SAME THING WITH A SHUTTLE COMING IN FROM OUTER SPACE, IT MUST BE AT CERTAIN SPEED AND ANGLE OR IT WILL BOUNCE BACK OUT.

CONSCIOUSNESS ALLOWS PEOPLE TO CREATE COMMUNITY AND USE THE COMMUNITY TO CREATE OR DESTROY. IF WE ARE NOT AWARE, WE ARE CREATED TO BE ROBOTS. IGNORANT PEOPLE ARE AFRAID OF SMART AND FREE PEOPLE. WE ARE SOCIALLY AND CULTURALLY CONDITIONED TO BE SLAVED, UNHAPPY WHO NEEDS AND BUY THE DRUGS TO BE HAPPY. HAPPINESS AND UNHAPPINESS IS A PROGRAM.

WE ALSO EXPERIENCE PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTOR AFTER PSYCHOLOGICAL INJURY. WE CALL IT PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMA.

WE EXPERIENCE FEAR AND SELF CONSCIOUSNESS DURING THIS TRAUMA.

CONSCIOUSNESS IS OUR VERBAL WORLD, OUR VISIO AUDIO PERCEPTION NARCISSISTIC WORLD. AUTISM IS TRAPPED IN EMOTIONAL WORLD.

CONSCIOUSNESS IS OUR CREATION OF AN ABSTRACT SYSTEM/STRUCTURE/RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CONCRETE THINGS WHERE THE IDEA IS THE THINGS. WE EVEN USE IT TO VISUALIZE PSYCHOLOGICAL STRUCTURE OF A SELF. IT'S A CREATION OF SYMBOLIC COMMUNITY TO ENABLE TO COOPERATE AND BE SOCIAL. HOWEVER, WE GET TRAPPED IN A SOCIAL SHELL.

DUE TO OUR TUNING IN TO OUR OWN ARTIFICIAL SOCIAL WORLD, WE LOSE TOUCH WITH THE EARTH. DUE TO INTRANET CONNECTION, WE LOSE THE INTERNET CONNECTION.

THE MAIN QUESTION IS MORE THAN IS UNIVERSE INTELLIGENT? I HIT A WALL TO GO BEYOND THIS QUESTION. THIS IS A WALL OF CONSCIOUSNESS. I AM TRAPPED IN ILLUSION OF CONSCIOUSNESS. WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS THAT IS UNIVERSE CONSCIOUS? IS UNIVERSE A SELF? INTELLIGENCE, RANDOM, PURPOSE, ORDER, DESIGN, LOGIC, OBJECT, SPACE, TIME ARE LANGUAGE OF CONSCIOUSNESS. I AM TRAPPED IN THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF SELF-OBJECTS. I EVEN TURN GOD INTO SELF-OBJECTS. I TURN MATTER INTO SELF-MATTER. A SELF THAT HAS CONSCIOUSNESS. AS FAR AS I KNOW, HUMAN IS THE ONLY THING THAT HAS CONSCIOUSNESS. EMOTIONAL MENTAL SOCIAL AND SPIRITUAL DIMENSION IS NON PHYSICAL, IT IS CONSCIOUSNESS. LOGIC LANGUAGE MEMORY IMAGINATION SOCIAL AND SPIRITUAL SIMULATION. THIS SPIRITUAL SIMULATION IS WHAT WE SOMETIMES CALL RELIGION.

THIS IS ONE OF THE CHARACTERISTIC OF UNIVERSE: NO CONSCIOUSNESS, NO SELF, IMPERMANENCE, SUFFERING. It is an occasion for suffering and not a cause of suffering because impermanence is only an occasion for suffering so long as ignorance, craving and clinging are present.AS LONG AS BELIEF IN SELF AND PERMANENCE ARE PRESENT.

THIS WALL IS THE WALL OF CONSCIOUSNESS. CONSCIOUSNESS IS OUR TOWER OF BABEL, IT'S WHAT ADAM GOT AFTER EATING FRUIT OF KNOWLEDGE. THE LOST OF CONNECTION WITH GOD. THIS IS OUR NARCISSISTIC SHELL. ENLIGHTENMENT IS SEEING BEYOND THE CONSCIOUSNESS, SEEING OUTSIDE THE BOX. PIERCING THE BUBBLE OF CONSCIOUSNESS. WITHOUT ILLUSION, PEOPLE BECOME TO POWERFUL. CONSCIOUSNESS SLOW DOWN THE PROGRESS.

WE CAN'T UNDERSTAND AND SEE GOD BECAUSE WE ARE BLOCKED BY OUR NARCISSISTIC SHELL. WE ARE ASKING THE WRONG QUESTIONS BASED ON OUR NARCISSISTIC WORLD.

OUR EXISTENCE AND THE EXISTENCE OF OUR ENVIRONMENT ARE CREATED IN THIS ORDER: THE NON LIFE SUPPORTING ENVIRONMENT (SEPARATING THE SKY AND THE LAND, CREATING THE SUN, MOON, AND STARS) - THE LIFE SUPPORTING ENVIRONMENT (CREATING THE SKY AND THE SEA, THE WEATHER) - PLANT - ANIMALS - HUMAN. THE CENTERPIECE OF THE CREATION IS THE HUMAN. EVERYTHING IS CREATED FOR HUMAN AS THE MAIN CREATION LIKE CREATING A GARDEN FOR HUMAN. RELIGION IS HUMAN CENTRIS AND GEOCENTRIS.

HUMAN ARE THE ONLY CREATURE THAT CAN REFLECT BACK ON ITSELF AND THE ENVIRONMENT. THE ORDER OF DEVELOPMENT STOP AT HUMAN AND REVERSE ITS ORDER. WE WILL FOCUS NOT ON HUMAN SINCE HUMAN IS THE YOUNGEST ONES CREATED. INSTEAD, WE LL FOCUS ON THE UNIVERSE ITSELF, THE PHYSICAL MATTER, THE FACTORY OF LIFE ITSELF.

LET'S ASSUME WE CAN WATCH THE PROCESS AS AN OUTSIDER FROM THE DISTANCE. LET'S PICK A GALAXY AND ASSUME THAT IT IS THE WHOLE UNIVERSE WITH ALL THE STARS AND PLANETS.

EITHER THE UNIVERSE IS CREATED OR IT IS NOT. IF IT IS NOT, WHY? WHAT PURPOSE? WHY IS NATURE EVOLVE? WHY NATURE IS TRYING TO SURVIVE? THE SOURCE OF ENERGY/MATTER AND THE USERS. HUMAN IS THE END USER. THE USERS ON EARTH ARE IMPROVING THEMSELVES TO IMPROVE CHANCES OF SURVIVAL. THE SOURCE IN ENVIRONMENT CONVERSE ENERGY TO SUPPORT USER'S LIFE.

WE CANNOT CREATE A USER WITHOUT THE ENVIRONMENT. BUT WE CAN CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT WITHOUT THE USER. THE USER CAN BE CREATED FROM THE ENVIRONMENT. BUT AN ENVIRONMENT CANNOT BE CREATED FROM THE USER. WHAT IS AN ENVIRONMENT BUT A LOWER FORM OF USER? PHYSICAL - CHEMICAL - ORGANIC - BIOLOGICAL.

MY MIND REACH A WALL AT THIS POINT. IT HIT THE WALL OF KNOWLEDGE. WHAT CREATED ATOM? HOW DID ATOM START? WHAT WAS BEFORE ATOM? DID IT COME FROM NOTHING? WHAT WAS BEFORE BIG BANG? BECAUSE THERE IS SOMETHING THAT BANG.

WHAT IS MATTER? NOT A DESCRIPTION, BUT IS IT INTELLIGENCE? DOES IT HAVE ORDERLY DESIGN? WE ARE STILL EXPLORING IS THE UNIVERSE FRIENDLY, NOT YET ASKING WHAT IT IS.

IS IT INTELLIGENT? NATURE HAS STRUCTURE THAT HUMAN CAN'T EVEN COPY. NATURE IS DIFFERENT THAN HUMAN, IT DOESN'T USE TECHNOLOGICAL TOOL TO MAKE SOMETHING, THE STRUCTURE ITSELF IS THE TECHNOLOGY. IF IT IS INTELLIGENCE THEN WHO IS IT OR WHAT IS IT? IT HAS ORDER, DESIGN, AND MATHEMATICAL STRUCTURE. IT HAS PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL STRUCTURE.

IT IS EASIER TO EXPLAIN IF IT IS CREATED. BUT IT'S MORE DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN IF IT IS NOT CREATED. WHAT IS IT? IT IS A GREAT COLLABORATION OF PARTICLE CREATING PHYSICAL CHEMICAL BIOLOGICAL MATTER. IS IT GOD THE PARTICLE THAT IS CREATING EVERYTHING? THE INTELLIGENT CREATIVE PARTICLE AS IT HAS BEEN FROM THE BEGINNING, IS AND WILL BE. IT CANNOT BE DESTROYED BY ITS CREATURE. IT IS THE SUPREME INTELLIGENT. IT IS MUCH SMALLER THAN A PERSON BUT MUCH MORE BIGGER THAN A PERSON. BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS EVEN A PERSON IS. A GREAT COLLABORATION OF REACTIONS. IT IS THE SMALLEST THING BUT IT'S EVERYWHERE THAT NOTHING CAN ESCAPE IT THAT IT'S ALSO THE BIGGEST THING. IT IS EVERYTHING.

IT CANNOT BE RANDOM JUST LIKE HUMAN EXISTENCE CANNOT BE RANDOM. IT IS ALIVE WITH PURPOSEFUL DESIGN AND INTELLIGENCE JUST LIKE HUMAN LIFE IS. HUMAN LIFE IS A MICROCOSM OF THIS UNIVERSE AND AT THE SAME TIME IT IS A MACROCOSM OF THE PARTICLE.

HUMAN EXPERIENCE OF EMOTION, PERCEPTION, LANGUAGE BASED MENTAL, SOCIAL DIMENSION ARE ILLUSIONS CREATED BY OUR MIND BY COMBINING MEMORY, LANGUAGE, AND IMAGINATION. LIFE IS PHYSICAL PHENOMENA NOT MENTAL OR EMOTIONAL. IT IS PHYSICAL CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL. THIS IS WHERE WE MEET GOD BECAUSE WE ALL ARE PART OF GOD. VERBAL WORLD

many people live in their verbal world in their mind

Perception is a top bottom representation of a bottom up present object and language is used as top bottom knowledge to add additional description about the object (comment)

Memory is a top bottom image of an absent object where a top bottom word is used as the object and additional description.

Imagination is a top bottom creation of a story of absent objects where words are used as absent objects and the objects can be abstract or fantasical.

Thinking is a top down activity that we do to:
1. To regulate emotion (to avoid anxiety and boredom)

3. A digital tool to evaluate and control self and environment (software for hardware)
4. Gives us structure of activities
5. Like reading map like reading map before the trip and using GPS during the trip
6. Activities (a wise think because it has something to think, a fool think because it has to think something)

We think for its own sake, like making noise for its sake like playing games or doing puzzle.

A top-down approach (also known as stepwise design or deductive reasoning,[1] and in many cases used as a synonym of analysis or decomposition) is essentially the breaking down of a system to gain insight into its compositional sub-systems. This strategy often resembles a "seed" model, whereby the beginnings are small but eventually grow in complexity and completeness. However, "organic strategies" may result in a tangle of elements and subsystems, developed in isolation and subject to local optimization as opposed to meeting a global purpose.

Top-Down and Bottom-Up Processing

When an interpretation emerges from the data, this is called data-driven or bottom-up processing. Perception must be largely data-driven because it must accurately reflect events in the outside world. You want the interpretation of a scene to be determined mostly by information from the senses, not by your expectations.
What is data-driven or bottom-up processing? What is schema-driven or top-down processing?
In many situations, however, your knowledge or expectations will influence perception. This is called schema-driven or top-down processing. A schema is a pattern formed earlier in your experience.
Larger scale or more abstract concepts are referred to as higher level, while concrete details (such as the input from the senses) are referred to as lower level. Top-down processing occurs any time a higher-level concept influences your interpretation of lower level sensory data.
What is set or expectancy?
Top-down processing is shown by the phenomena of set or expectancy. A classic example is the Rat Man of Bugelski and Alampay (1961).

Subjects saw this picture after viewing earlier slides that showed line drawings of (1) animals, or (2) faces. Depending on whether they saw animals or faces in previous slides, subjects reported seeing either (1) a rat or (2) a man wearing glasses. They had been "set" for one or the other interpretation by the preceding slides. This is a form of top-down processing, in which a schema influences interpretation of the data.
In what respect do cartoons rely upon top-down processing?
Comics and cartoons provide many examples of top-down processing. Simple cues are used to suggest complex feelings and emotions. Cartoonists have a set of conventions for conveying information about mental and physical states. Tiny popping bubbles, for example, show drunkenness. Movement is shown by lines and little puffs of dust trailing after shoes. Spoken language is shown inside a bubble made out of a continuous line. A silent thought is shown inside a broken line. A sudden idea may be shown as a lightbulb lighting up over a character's head. Beads of sweat flying off a character show anxiety or physical exertion. After one gains some experience reading comics, these cues are processed automatically; one is hardly aware of them.
In what sense do we go "beyond the information given"?
In general, top-down processing—information processing based on previous knowledge or schemata—allows us to make inferences: to "perceive" or "know" more than is contained in the data. Little cartoon droplets do not contain the information that a character is working hard. We add that information based upon our previous experience and knowledge of the conventions of cartooning.
Jerome Bruner titled a book about cognitive development Beyond the Information Given (1972) He was acknowledging the pivotal role of inference in cognition. We go "beyond the information given" constantly in our mental processes. We learn to add assumptions and supplemental information derived from past experience to the evidence of our senses, and that is how we make sense of our world.

hese terms are also employed in neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience and cognitive psychology to discuss the flow of information in processing.[5] Typically sensory input is considered "down", and higher cognitive processes, which have more information from other sources, are considered "up". A bottom-up process is characterized by an absence of higher level direction in sensory processing, whereas a top-down process is characterized by a high level of direction of sensory processing by more cognition, such as goals or targets (Beiderman, 19).[4]
According to Psychology notes written by Dr. Charles Ramskov, a Psychology professor at De Anza College, Rock, Neiser, and Gregory claim that top-down approach involves perception that is an active and constructive process.[6] Additionally, it is an approach not directly given by stimulus input, but is the result of stimulus, internal hypotheses, and expectation interactions. According to Theoretical Synthesis, "when a stimulus is presented short and clarity is uncertain that gives a vague stimulus, perception becomes a top-down approach."[7]
Conversely, Psychology defines bottom-up processing as an approach wherein there is a progression from the individual elements to the whole. According to Ramskov, one proponent of bottom-up approach, Gibson, claims that it is a process that includes visual perception that needs information available from proximal stimulus produced by the distal stimulus.[8] Theoretical Synthesis also claims that bottom-up processing occurs "when a stimulus is presented long and clearly enough."[7]
Cognitively speaking, certain cognitive processes, such as fast reactions or quick visual identification, are considered bottom-up processes because they rely primarily on sensory information, whereas processes such as motor control and directed attention are considered top-down because they are goal directed. Neurologically speaking, some areas of the brain, such as area V1 mostly have bottom-up connections.[7] Other areas, such as the fusiform gyrus have inputs from higher brain areas and are considered to have top-down influence.[9]
The study of visual attention provides an example. If your attention is drawn to a flower in a field, it may be because the color or shape of the flower are visually salient. The information that caused you to attend to the flower came to you in a bottom-up fashion—your attention was not contingent upon knowledge of the flower; the outside stimulus was sufficient on its own. Contrast this situation with one in which you are looking for a flower. You have a representation of what you are looking for. When you see the object you are looking for, it is salient. This is an example of the use of top-down information.
In cognitive terms, two thinking approaches are distinguished. "Top-down" (or "big chunk") is stereotypically the visionary, or the person who sees the larger picture and overview. Such people focus on the big picture and from that derive the details to support it. "Bottom-up" (or "small chunk") cognition is akin to focusing on the detail primarily, rather than the landscape. The expression "seeing the wood for the trees" references the two styles of cognition.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a major mental disorder that affects approximately 1% of the population worldwide. Cognitive deficits are a key feature of schizophrenia and a primary cause of long-term disability. Current neurophysiological models of schizophrenia focus on distributed brain dysfunction with bottom-up as well as top-down components. Bottom-up deficits in cognitive processing are driven by impairments in basic perceptual processes that localize to primary sensory brain regions. Within the auditory system, deficits are apparent in elemental sensory processing, such as tone matching following brief delay. Such deficits lead to impairments in higher-order processes such as phonological processing and auditory emotion recognition. Within the visual system, deficits are apparent in functioning of the magnocellular visual pathway, leading to higher-order deficits in processes such as perceptual closure, object recognition, and reading. In both auditory and visual systems, patterns of deficit are consistent with underlying impairment of brain N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor systems.

Animal mind

Animal lives an autistic life with simple visual perception and signal reaction
leading to simple emotional reaction, like relax and fear
it knows no subject and object permanence, it doesn't have perception experience like human do
no attachment and no self awareness, no reflexive myself.
just like human infants. "infants who live in adults' life"
Infants are skill-less to meet its own needs, are dependent on others, it sees others but does not recognize,  its vision is specific, sensitive senses.
Autism in adults life lead to over input and traumatic based reaction not from traumatic memory but conditioned traumatic experience.
from lack of perception, input always change and mixed into one lead to rigid behavior and routine. and additional output behavior to block out input. when relaxed, able to connect to others.
it may know no worry and suffering, it may know fear. suffering is buffering for pain. we suffer to avoid pain.

People with autism have emotions, but they are simpler and more like the emotions of a vigilant prey species animal.

For a horse who has previously been fearful of trailers to overcome his fear, the higher brain centers in the cortex have to send a fear suppression signal to the amygdala. This is called a cortical over-ride, which is a signal that will block the fear me mory but does not delete it. If the animal becomes anxious, the old fear memory may pop back up because the cortex stops sending the fear suppression signal.

Fear-based behaviors are complex. Dog trainers have learned that punishing a fear-based behavior makes it worse. When a horse rears, kicks, or misbehaves during training, it may make the trainer feel angry. The trainer may mistakenly think that the horse is angry. But the horse is muc h more likely to be scared. Therefore it is important for trainers to be calm. An angry trainer would be scary to the horse.

Fearfulness is a stable characteristic of personality and temperament in animals. Animals with high-strung, nervous temperaments are generally more fearful and form stronger fear memories than animals with calm, placid temperaments.

It is likely that horses would respond to different training methods in a similar manner. Horses with calm placid dispositions are more likely to habituate to rough methods of handling and training compared to flighty, excitable animals. The high-strung, spirited horse may be ruined by rough training methods because he becomes so fearful that he fails to learn, or habituate.
On the other hand, an animal with a calm, nonreactive nervous system will probably habituate to a series of nonpainful forced training procedures, whereas a flighty, high- strung nervous animal may never habituate. Horses who are constantly swishing thei r tails when there are no flies present and have their heads up are usually fearful horses. In the wild, horses put their heads up to look for danger.

As a creature of flight, how a horse reacts to novel or unusual situations or new places can be used to access his true temperament. French scientist Robert Dantzer found that sudden novelty shoved into an animal's face can be very stressful. A horse with a high-strung, fearful nature may be calm and well-mannered when ridden at home. However, his true temperament has been masked because he feels relaxed and safe in a familiar environment. When he is suddenly confronted with the' new sights and sounds at a horse show he may blow up.
It is the more high-strung and fearful horses who-have the most difficulty in novel situations. At the show there are many unusual sights and sounds, such as balloons and loud public address systems, that are never seen or heard at home. An animal with a nervous temperament is calm when in a familiar environment -- he has learned it is safe -- but is more likely to panic when suddenly confronted with new things.
The paradoxical thing about novelty is that it can be extremely attractive to an animal when he can voluntarily approach it. A piece of paper lying in the pasture may be approached by a curious horse, but that same piece of paper lying on the riding trail may make the horse shy. People working with horses and other animals need to think more about how the animals' perceive the situations we put them in.

we all have our autistic moment when we don;t connect with some novel situation or fearful moment. we regress to our more basic system of self preservation. high strung people experience it more than calm people. calm people is less sensitive. calm temperature autistic is mild autistic??? more sensitive fearful is more sever???

Tin, semakin gede anak semakin kecil risknya. You are right, they live in their own world. Seperti living inside their own shell kayak anak ayam yang belum menetas atau live inside a bubble. Sebenarnya kita semua pernah mengalami phase ini saat kita baru lahir. Bayi baru lahir kan belum liat orang belum attachment ke orang. they may see and hear others but they don't care. Phase ini dibilangnya Autistic shell. Kata "Autist" itu sendiri berarti "self", like they only feel themselves.
Kata living in the shell ini juga bisa diapply ke dunia spiritualitas. Anak remaja itu juga hidup di dalam shell yg disebut Narcissistic Shell dimana mereka cuma perduli diri mereka doang. Kita sebenernya masih hidup di dalam narcissistic shell ini seakan2 kita hidup dalam ilusi tentang "self" kita. Buddhism bilang "we are asleep" "kita seperti bermimpi". Enlightenment itu sebenernya narcissistic shell kita pecah. Menarik yah?

Jadi anak autistic itu seperti anak bayi yang baru lahir tetapi bedanya, anak baru lahir inderanya belum jalan sedang anak autis inderanya sudah jalan dan mereka gak ngerti input yg tertangkap oleh indera mereka. Mereka jadi takut sekali dan keluarlah compulsive behaviors to cope with it or to sooth himself.

Kita juga sebenernya mengalami autism saat kita tinggal di foreign country. Waktu gw di US, gw always merasa foreign. Gw bisa ngerti bahasa mereka, gw bisa ngomong ke mereka, tapi somehow gw gak nyambung dengan culture mereka, gak masuk. They don't understand me, i don't understand them. Pernah ngalamin gak lu? Anak autist itu seperti hidup di foreign land walaupun di keluarganya sendiri. They know but not familiar with their family.

Lu tau dejavu kan? Dejavu itu perasaan kayak kita pernah berada di sini, like we are "familiar with the situation, but we don't know"
Lawan katanya itu Ja ma Vu itu "know but not familiar". Org2 autism atau schizophrenia itu mengalami hal ini. Mereka tau istrinya, anaknya, tapi mereka kayak gak kenal.

Mengenai penembak connecticut itu, gw yakin dia itu bekas anak berkebutuhan khusus, spt autism. Mereka bilang dia akademiknya cemerlang, sudah bisa mandiri. Yg bikin dia nembak orang itu emotional factornya dia. Gw gak tau specifically kenapa dia melakukan itu. Tapi, kalau pake logic. Anak yang kebutuhan khusus itu kan punya rasa takut dan frustrasi dalam hidup yang besar. Ditambah rasa malu karna gak punya teman lama2 depresi. Mereka bingung dan gak ngerti kenapa mereka begitu. They will do things to make them feel better, mulai dari narkoba, sex, mencuri, lama2 bunuh diri. Yg dia lakukan itu a solution to a problem.

Disini yah Tin masih ketinggalan banget cara berpikirnya. Masih banyak percaya tahayul/supernatural. Gw diceritain sama temen ada temennya yg mau cerai karna dia ke psikologis dan pastur trus dibilang dia disantet dan ada yg ikutin, dll. Temen gw ceritain masalah2 tuh orang. Gw bilang ke temen gw, gak usah bawa2 setan aja gw bisa jelasin secara natural kira2 masalah relationship dia. Menurut gw yah Tin, ada 3 cara ngelejasin pengalaman hidup; common sense, natural explaination, dan agama/supernatural explaination. Common sense itu opini kita dari pengalaman hidup. natural explaination itu biasanya science. Ketiga explaination itu ada plus minusnya. Plusnya common sense itu paling accessable, minus nya itu subjective. Plusnya science itu lebih objective dan predictive, tapi minusnya terbatas. Plusnya agama itu ruang lingkupnya luas sekali, minusnya sangat abstract. Gw bukannya anti penjelasan agama, tapi menurut gw kita harus mencoba menjelaskan secara natural dulu sebelum penjelasan supernatural. Dalam dunia medis, kalau kita kena penyakit jasmani, kita cari penjelasan natural/science dulu, ke dokter, makan obat, dll, tapi mengapa kalau kita membicarakan pengalaman rohani, kayak relationship, negative emotion, kita langsung lari ke Tuhan? Gw sering disini cerita sama temen atau orang tuanya temen tentang masalah hidup, misalnya kerjaan, relationship dan mereka langsung jawabnya "minta saja sama Tuhan" trus mereka biasanya cerita pengalaman religious mereka. Buat gw, jawaban itu ngebingungin. falam hati gw gw mikir apa maksudnya minta saja sama Tuhan, trus dikasihnya apa? bukannya gw atheis, tapi gw bener2 gak ngerti. Mungkin mereka bener2 ngalamin pengalaman iman yg luar biasa yg ngerti Tuhan, tapi gw gak ngerti. Gimana mereka ngebedain suara yg mereka denger di pikiran mereka itu suara Tuhan atau imaginasi mereka? Menurut gw yah Tin, kita terlalu meng anthromorphism Tuhan. (anthromorphism itu me manusiakan sesuatu, kayak film disney binatang bisa ngomong kayak manusia). Kita sering denger atau ngomong kayak Tuhan tuh seorang manusia. Kadang2, orang mau gw melakukan sesuatu bawa2 Tuhan bilang "Tuhan mau kamu melakukan itu". Gw dalam hati ngomong yg mau Tuhan apa elu? Org sering ngomong Tuhan tuh kayak mereka kenal bgt, apalagi yg fanatik yah. Kita memang dibuat seperti citra Allah, bukannya kita membuat Allah seperti citra manusia.

Penjelasan spiritual itu penting, to see a big picture. Tapi itu sangat abstrak dan bahaya kalau disalahgunakan. Dan disini agama adalah kedok yang paling populer digunakan dan orang banyak yg tertipu. Disini konseling juga masih belum klinikal, jadi masih religious. Dan mereka kebanyakan pake ayat2 kitab suci dan common sense. Bahkan motivator2 terkenal, gw kadang2 ngedengerin, gw mau tau mereka ngomongin apa. Kebanyakan pake common sense dan sambil lempar kata "Tuhan" sekali sekali. Gw aja gak ngerti apa yg sebenernya mereka omongin. Mereka itu hanya "dr. feelgood" dimana mereka lompat2 teriak2 bikin orang senang di seminar mereka, tapi gak begitu berisi.

Kita pada dasarnya tidak mengerti tentang hidup kita, tentang manusia, tentang penyakit makanya kita takut dan pada saat kita takut kita marah. ignorance juga ketidaksadaran. Seperti anak yang autis tidak sadar tentang reality dan hidup di pikiran mereka, kita pun seakan2 hidup di dalam pikiran kita dan tidak mengerti bahwa pikiran kita yg menciptakan persepsi kita tentang dunia dan persepsi kita itulah yg kita sebut dunia. It's like living in a bubble. Denial adalah ignorance dalam dunia sosial, yg ada hubungannya dengan orang lain. Animals are ignorant but they don't do denial. Denial adalah hiding part of our self that is not accepted in public behind a more accepted mask or image. After a while, we forget that we are hiding something and we adopt the mask as who we are. We create a world around this mask. This is our narcissistic shell.

JUST LIKE GOD IS ALREADY AROUND BUT WE DON'T SEE IT BECAUSE OF OUR IDEA OF WHAT GOD SHOULD BE.

WHAT WE DO IN THIS LIFE, HOW WE ACT, WHAT WE THINK AND FEEL
THIS IS CALLED HUMAN EXPERIENCE
EVEN IN THE MOST BASIC FORM, WE CAN KNOW WHAT WE SENSE ANY GIVEN MOMENT, THIS IS OUR SENSICAL EXPERIENCE

RELIGION USE ABSTRACT LANGUAGE THAT IS CLOSED TO IMAGINATION
HIGH LEVEL OF LINGUISTIC CLASSIFICATION THAT TRAVELS FROM THOUSAND YEARS AGO
RELIGIOUS LANGUAGE IS DIFFERENT THAN OUR EXPERIENCE

WE HAVE TO BUILD A BRIDGE BETWEEN OUR RELIGIOUS KNOWLEDGE AND HUMAN EXPERIENCE, BETWEEN RELIGIOUS EXPLANATION AND LOGICAL EXPLANATION.
WITHOUT IT, OUR RELIGIOUS INTERPRETATION IS SUBJECTIVE AND RELATIVE CONFUSED WITH ABSOLUTE.
LOGICAL EXPLAINATION WITHOUT RELIGIOUS EXPLAINATION IS SO LIMITED BECAUSE WE KNOW SO LITTLE.
WE HAVE TO EXPLAIN NATURE WITH NATURAL EXPLANATION BEFORE WE JUMP TO SUPERNATURAL EXPLANATION WHEN SUPERNATURAL WAS NOT EXPERIENCED. WHEN THE SUPERNATURAL WAS NOT EXPERIENCED WE CALL IT FANTASY OR IMAGINATION.

MANY PEOPLE USE FAITH OR HOLY SPIRIT TO EXPLAIN THE UNEXPLAINABLE. IT IS ILLOGICAL AND IRRATIONAL. IT MAY BE TRUE IN SOME CASES WHEN IT IS EXPERIENCED. WE CAN SEE THE EXPERIENCE FROM THE FRUIT OF THE EXPERIENCE. HOWEVER, MANY PEOPLE JUST COPY THE SYMBOL OF THE SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE AND CLAIM THE FAITH AND HOLY SPIRIT AND EXPLAIN THE NATURAL WITH ILLOGICAL IRRATIONAL EXPLAINATION TO WIN AN ARGUMENT.

JESUS DESTROYED THE HYPOCRISY OF THE JEWS. IT IS CHILDISH LIKE WHEN WE ARE A CHILD WE WEAR CHILDREN'S CLOTH BUT WHEN WE GROW UP WE STOP WEARING CHILDREN'S CLOTH. WE LEARN THROUGH WORDS, BUT THE WORDS HAS BECOME MAN. JOHN'S IS THE MOST PSYCHOLOGICAL CHAPTER IN THE BIBLE.
